Privacy Policy

Overview

Munin is designed as a local, private Markdown editor. It does not require an account and does not include advertising, analytics or behavioural tracking. Your documents remain in the folders you choose.

Information Munin collects

Munin does not collect usage analytics, document contents, filenames or editing activity. The app does not send telemetry or use third-party analytics services.

If you choose to use the optional feedback form, Munin sends the message you enter, any email address you choose to provide, the Munin app version and your macOS version to Apple CloudKit. This information is used only to understand and respond to your feedback. If CloudKit is unavailable, Munin opens a draft in your chosen mail app instead; nothing is sent until you send that email.

Your documents

Munin reads and writes files only when you choose to open them or grant access to their containing folder. Document rendering, search and token counting take place on your Mac. Munin does not upload your files to its own servers.

If you store documents in a third-party synchronisation service such as iCloud Drive or Dropbox, that service processes your files under its own privacy policy. Munin does not control those services.

App permissions

Munin may request access to files and folders you select. This access is used only to provide editing, workspace, search and export features. You can revoke file access through macOS or move your documents at any time.

Crash reports and diagnostics

Munin does not currently operate its own crash-reporting or diagnostic collection service. Apple may provide developers with aggregated or user-authorised diagnostics under Apple’s terms and your device privacy settings.

This website

The Munin website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. It is hosted by Cloudflare, which may process limited technical request information—such as an IP address, browser type and request time—to operate, secure and diagnose the service. Cloudflare handles that information under its privacy policy.

Data sharing and sale

Munin does not sell personal information. It does not share your documents or usage data with advertisers, data brokers or analytics providers. Optional feedback is processed using Apple CloudKit as described above.

Data retention

Files you edit remain wherever you save them and are retained until you delete them. macOS file versions, backups and third-party storage services may retain copies according to their respective settings and policies.

Feedback submitted through CloudKit is retained only for as long as it is useful for handling the feedback and maintaining Munin. You may request deletion of feedback that can be identified by your supplied email address by contacting support@smushmonkey.com.

Children’s privacy

Munin is not directed specifically at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

This policy may change as Munin develops or applicable requirements change. The effective date above will be updated whenever a revised policy is published.
